Terms of Service

By creating an account or using Alto, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

1. Description of the service

Alto is a voice dictation application for Linux. It records audio when you hold a push-to-talk key, sends it to a third-party transcription provider (Mistral AI), and injects the resulting text at your cursor.

2. Account registration

To use Alto, you must create an account with a valid email address and a password of at least 8 characters. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure. One account per person.

3. Free and paid plans

Usage quotas reset on the 1st of each calendar month. Unused minutes do not roll over.

4. Billing and payment

Payments are processed by Creem (Creem OÜ, Estonia), acting as Merchant of Record. Creem handles invoicing, VAT collection, and payment processing on our behalf. By subscribing, you also agree to Creem's terms of service.

Subscriptions are billed monthly. You will be charged at the beginning of each billing period.

You may cancel your subscription at any time from the Alto application. Upon cancellation:

Under EU consumer protection law (Directive 2011/83/EU), you have 14 days from the date of purchase to withdraw without giving a reason. To exercise this right, contact us at contact@alto-dictation.com. If you have used the service during this period, a proportional amount may be deducted.

7. Account deletion

You may delete your account at any time from the application or by calling the API endpoint DELETE /v1/auth/me. Deletion is immediate and permanently removes your email, credentials, usage history, and subscription data. This action is irreversible.

9. Intellectual property

Alto, its code, design, and branding are the exclusive property of the operator. Your subscription grants you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use the application for its intended purpose.

Alto is provided "as is". We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. In particular:

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time. For material changes affecting paid subscribers, we will provide at least 30 days' notice by email.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of France. Any disputes shall be submitted to the competent courts of France, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection rules of your country of residence.
